On May 17, 2005, Antonio Villaraigosa was elected mayor of Los Angeles with 58% of the vote. CLCV endorsed Villaraigosa in the March 8 primary and the May 17 runoff.

Industry Lobbyists Press Agenda with Schwarzenegger

CLCV has obtained a copy of a memo from the "Thursday Group," a network of industry lobbyists in Sacramento, outlining their environmental priorities to Governor Schwarzenegger. The memo has disturbing implications and points out the need for grassroots environmental activism to counteract the influence that polluting industry has in Sacramento. Read the memo here.

CLCV Holds Presidential Candidate Forum in L.A.

Democratic hopefuls rip Bush's environmental record

On June 26, 2003, CLCV and the national League of Conservation Voters sponsored the first ever presidential forum focusing exclusively on the environment. Five candidates competing for the Democratic Presidential nomination attended the event at UCLA. "Tens of thousands of disenfranchised progressive voices stayed silently at home on election night 2000," said CLCV interim Executive Director Rico Mastrodonato. "I can't imagine anything more motivating now to these voters than the horrendously destructive environmental policies of the Bush Administration." Read more about the forum.
