Environmental Priorities on the Governor’s desk — Take Action Now!
Governor Schwarzenegger has until October 15th to sign or veto legislation that's made it to his desk this session. Now is his chance to demonstrate his commitment to environmental protection. That means it's time for all of us to weigh in and make sure the Governor knows we want him to sign bills that will help make California a cleaner, healthier place.
There are three key bills that the Governor must support:
SB 719 (Machado) — Would expand the Central Valley Air Board membership from 11 to 15 members, to bring expertise from air quality scientists and medical professionals to the board – a big step towards cleaning up the worst air quality in the country.
AB 1108 (Ma) — Would ban the use of chemicals called phthalates, which have been linked to cancer and reproductive deformities, in toys and feeding products intended for children under three years of age.
AB 1470 (Huffman) — $250 million incentive program to make it more affordable and attractive for consumers to switch to solar hot-water heaters. This bill will help California continue to build a robust clean energy economy and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
You can let the Governor know these bills are priorities for our health, environmental quality and for meeting important global warming reduction goals.
In the next few days the fate of these bills will be decided by a stroke of the Governor’s pen. We know polluting industries and chemical companies are urging him NOT to sign these bills.
This makes it extremely important for him to hear from you!!
Please call the Governor’s office today and ask that he sign SB 719, AB 1108, and AB 1470.
